I posted once asking whether NuvaRing could be left in for 4 weeks before changing it (with no time in between) to stop menstruation, and many people responded that they didn't know. Well today was my first ob/gyn appointment (tis the season for Pap smears!!! ;) rayray) and I was given NuvaRing. The doctor specifically told me that I could do this if I wanted- she just couldn't write it in the prescription because it's not FDA approved for 4 week use yet officially. HTHS. I was pretty excited for a period-free birth control that doesn't involve taking a pill daily!

I must have missed your post about that! I use NuvaRing and always leave it in for 4 weeks. I've had no problems with it. Usually, I'll go 3 months and then have a period, and it always comes regularly. I agree, it's a great option.

I do this too. I leave it in all 4 weeks and then immediately switch over to a new one. My doctor suggested this for continuous suppression. I haven't had a menstrual period in over a year. It feels odd not to have any pads or tampons lying around.

I have seen another doctor who is uncertain that there is enough hormones to last all 4 weeks and urged me to switch out every 3 weeks so I won't accidentally get pregnant.

I am not going to get pregnant so I switch out every 4 weeks. That Nuvaring is expensive! Totally worth it for the convenience though.

I wish Nuvaring was cheaper for me, because I loved the 2-month free sample I got! I'm on the generic of Seasonale right now which is great, I just wish I could *never* have a period.

I had no idea that birth control had generic versions.

It's true - I was on a generic version of Ortho Tri-Cyclen before.

Speedysweetie, where have you been?! ;) Kidding, but many popular brands of birth control are generic now. In fact, most pharmacies will give you the generic version unless you specify (to save you money). There are generics of Ortho Tri-Cyclen, OTC-Lo, Seasonale, and MANY others. They only cost between $10-15 a month, which is what I can afford.
