Just wondering if anyone had any recs/experiences w/ sinus infecs. I've had one for about 10 days now but I thought it was just a cold  So today I finally went to the Dr & she gave me a Z pack & some cough medicine....is this the normal treatment? I remember getting Zithromax (the Z pack) for a a completely different problem & don't see how that would treat this. Also, any ideas for how to prevent this in the future?

I had a horrible one last year and I got those two things and two different decongestants and some saline nasal spray and pain meds..... but army doctors are more likely to just dish out the meds, so I think what you got was just fine. Just make sure you take it how you're suppose to, drink water, get more rest, and go back if you feel worse. Mine was later coupled with bronchitus (sp?) which was hell, so just watch how you feel and hope you get better soon.

I had a really horrible one some years back. I was literally sick for months b/c the first 2 times I went to the doc, they didn't realize that it was a sinus infection for some reason. It wasn't until I started blowing (way TMI here) jelly like junks with blood in them out of my nose that it clicked for them. I was on some super strong antibiotics for a couple weeks.
Remember that saline nasal spray helps a bunch too!

I usually used a Z-Pack plus Predisone to clear up my sinus infections. I haven't had one in a couple of years though.
A few years ago I had a bad sinus infection that turned into worse (bronchitis and then pneumonia). I was sick with pneumonia for almost the entire summer because I didn't treat the sinus infection right away. So I'm glad you are getting it taken care of.
Part of the problem is that my doc was hesitant to prescribe an antibiotic early on because she thought it might be viral. She told me to do the fluids and rest thing...but I kept coming back because I wasn't getting better. Finally I was really in bad shape with pneumonia (trouble breathing and walking because of tehbreathing issue). THat's when the doc "woke up" and started giving me medication. In the end it was the Zithromax and another antibiotic that helped me get better.

i have one right now too.. i get them often even though i had sinus surgery. They really suck. Try not to touch your eyes, if you can helpt it, the bacteria from your nose can give you a stye. Also, aside from antibiotics and decongestants, nasal rinses work really really well. I use one called NeilMed, you can get it at CVS or any pharmacy i would imagine. Hope you feel better!
