I was having a conversation with a pal of mine, and somehow this came up.
Apparently some people detox their bodies by drinking a lemonade mixture made up of water, lemons, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper.
Has anyone else heard of this?

Haha, I remember an episode of Loveline and Andy Dick was really into this stuff.:D
I've definitely heard of it. Andy Dick said it worked well.:)

Yes! My parents are really into this, and my dad has recommended it to a bunch of his patients. It apparently works really well--my mom lost a few lbs the first time she did it, and she said it made her feel a lot more clear-headed and able to think better.
I've never done it (I can't go several days without real food, LOL) but it's seemed to work pretty well for the people I know who have done it.

I've heard about people doing this with success, if you google some keywords you can find blogs of folks who tried it out. I think its called the Master Cleanse.
I personally wouldn't try it because I'm afraid of messing up my metabolism (which is pretty good) from my body going into starvation mode plus the yucky effects it would have on your digestive system.

I think it's called the Master Cleanse too, Ellen DeGeneres talked about it on her show once. It's definitely meant to be a temporary thing, like fasting-most people seem to do it for up to a week.

Yeah, it's Master Cleanse. I believe Stressout, Bart, did this with success and posted about it here.

Yeah, it's definitely not a long-term thing. My parents do it for a few days to a week a couple times a year. I might have to try it eventually, but the pepper part sounds kinda gross to me, LOL.

I've heard of that....I'm not a doctor or anything, but wow does that sound unhealthy.

Beyonce did that to lose weight for her 'Dreamgirls' role.

I'd heard of the Master Cleanse before, but I assumed it was a colonic or something along the lines of that :o

I've tried this last year for a period of time, I can't say if it really worked for me since I used this diet in place of my lunch. But I think you are supposed to take it in place of all your meals for a period of time. The drink mix tastes not too bad actually. It's just like lemonade except it's on the spicy side. :p

I think I'll have to keep this in mind for after the holidays. After all every year in January, I tend to feel sick, congested, and sluggish from all the rich foods I eat in November and December.:o

I may try this soon for a few days. Not to lose weight, just to cleanse. I've been eating crappy food recently and I feel so tired and sluggish.

I couldn't go too long without solid food, at least some protien, fruits, and veggies. Sounds interesting though ;)

I've done the Master Cleanse a few times and love it. It's a mixture of 8oz water (cold or warm whichever you prefer, I like warm), juice queezed from 1/2 of a lemon, 2 tablespoons of grade B maple syrup, and a pinch of cayenne pepper. It's actually VERY healthy for your body. I've heard about people curing chronic stomach problems with this. I like it because it makes me feel good inside and out, also helps to drop a few pounds. The only thing is you have to watch what you eat after doing the cleanse because it seems any weight you lost will instantly be back! :)

The biggest reason I have not tried this is because most weeks I'm extremely physically active. I mean, it's not unusual for me workout 3 hours a day (an hour of something on my lunch break, and then 2 hours of racquetball after work), and I don't know if I could keep my energy high enough eating nothing but cayenne lemonade to do that.
I want to do the Master Cleanse for the detox effects but I won't do ANYTHING that might mess with my activity level. Mainly I don't want to pass out on the racquetball court, scare the hell out of my playing partners, end up in an ambulance, etc. I guess the only way I'm going to know for sure is to try it though. I'll just have to plan a week of no rball (that's horrible for me to contemplate....) and try it.

Hmm, I don't know. After about a day I'd probably start thinking about a Big Mac and cave.

I think I would seriously faint. I get very weak if I don't eat at all, so I know I would cave too.

Its not a meal replacement, its a cleanse. Its supposed to stimulate your stomach acid and help your digestion and remove toxins. You still need to eat whole grains and veggies to clean out your system. You can do it for a short period or til your digestion is working better otherwise you can get too acidic.

Thanks for the recipe. I made some and I'm drinking it now. It doesn't taste that bad. I'm still gonna eat but I'll try this out for a few days to see how I feel.

It's a mixture of 8oz water (I used room temperature), 1/2 of a lemon juice, 2 tablespoons of grade B maple syrup, and a pinch of cayenne pepper.

When you make the drink properly, it's actually delicious! I love it before bed and it gives me kind of a buzz ;)

If you have Trader Joe around you, that's where I found grade B maple syrup. Or try organic food stores, not sure if Whole Foods carry it.

I found it at Whole Foods. I haven't made any in 2 days. I have been eating less though. I have a problem with snacking when I'm not even hungry. I also eat when I'm bored.

I started it, but it was hard to keep up with it. As soon as i got hungry, i went downstairs to make the drink and as soon as i finished it, it didn't want to stay down. :(

Rachel-I have that problem too...if there's food around me, I'll eat.

I did do this over a year ago. I was never hungry for some reason but it got really boring. I lost 20 pounds in 10 days and ran to Saks to get some jeans. I gained it all back within 3 months I believe. It definitely requires sticking to healthier eating habits after completing the 10 days.

I actually finally tried to start doing this detox a few weeks back, but it was making lightheaded to the point I thought I was going to pass out. I think I'd better try it until winter break, when I don't have as much going on.

I know mangosteen is a detoxer, and you eat normally. It's a major antioxidant and cancer preventor and all kinds of things like that.
