View Full Version : I Pee Too Often!!!

The past couple months or so I've noticed I've been peeing VERY often. Sometimes every hour. It's never painful, just a pain in the butt, especially when I'm trying to sleep. It's not a tiny amount but not a ton either. And I'm not consuming any more liquids.

I was at the ob/gyn recently and told her and she sent out urine cultures (to test for a UTI or bladder infection) but they came back normal. And I'm assuming I'm not pregnant because I think she would have tested before prescribing me birth control (instead of just relying on the fact that I had a period recently since someone women menstruate throughoug pregnancy).

I'm sure it's not life threatening or anything but it's very frustrating. Any idea what it could be?

The same thing has been happening to me. As I type this I just had to get out of bed for a pee break. My theory is maybe you are drinking more fluids than you realize...since it is summer and I think most people's fluid intake increases whether they notice it or not.

My body also is weird in the fact I think the amount that I pee depends on hormone fluctuations too somehow.

I'm eager to hear what others have to say!

I was gonna ask if you're drinking a lot of water, but you answered my question. That's the only thing I can think of, especially with the outrageous summer heat. Sorry I can't be of better help.

Honey, you've just described my whole life. I've always been an annoying pee-er. I can actually sit there after peeing for a minute or two and make more. Often, I have the urge and all I get is maybe a tablespoon's worth of volume. I've had UA's and UC's done, and all is normal. It's just part of my metabolism - which has always had a tendency to be fast anyway. You've done everything right - been to the doctor, etc. Try measuring your total liquid intake - not just water, but coffeee, tea, juices, alcohol and soda, and cut it back slightly, especially the last three hours before bed. I've learned to sleep on a fairly full bladder. My joke is: If I could only have a a catheter attached to a 55 gallon drum, I'd never have to leave my desk and could get so much more work done. Yet, with all this peeing going on, I still retain water. Go figure!

how much caffeine do you consume daily? caffeine is a diuretic and will thus cause you to pee more often than you usually would...i'm a big tea drinker, but i have limit my intake a couple of hours before bed & when traveling or i'm going every 20 min....so, if you drink a lot of tea, coffee, soda, energy drinks, etc., or even just a moderate amount, this could be your problem

Haha too funny because I am the exact same way! It's SO annoying, but thankfully my friends think it's funny and we joke about it all the time.

If you really want to delve into it, this is a good book to read. Read up on the part about kidneys.

I thought about this too. If I drink water, juice, etc., I don't have a problem with pee-ing all the time. However if I consume caffiene, even in moderate amounts, I pee ALL the time. Coffee and tea are the worst for me!

Oh the only caffeine I have is the occasional chocolate bar or very occasional chai latte. My mom thinks maybe it's hormonal. It sucks!!! :-p

I was also thinking about the caffeine intake too. That makes you pee more than you might realize.

If you feel comfortable and healthy drinking the amount of water you are, then stick with it. My general physician told me people should not be drinking a specific amount of fluid just because Oprah says it, or any other source. You should be in-tune with drinking when you are thirsty, and stop when you're not...and that's the amount of water you need. Too much water/fluid, and your body just gets rid of it by needing to pee all the time.

About peeing and pregnancy, you really don't pee extra until you are far along in the pregnancy and the weight of the baby & fluids/placenta/in-uetro crud is enough where it physically pushes down on your bladder. My OB (who is very common-sense) says many women will over-hydrate in early pregnancy because they think it's good for the baby & pregnancy, end up peeing all the time because of that, and just blame it on the pregnancy. Real pregnancy peeing comes later on based on my first sentence about weight of the baby.

When I used to consume lots of sugars and processed carbs I would pee all the time. After I changed my diet I stopped having to pee so much.

I've always peed frequently...my ex used to tell me I had the bladder of a 90 year old who's had six kids. I think that's a little extreme, but yeah. I have also always consumed huge amounts of caffeine, so that probably has something to do with it. I feel like I'm so addicted to caffeine. A few weeks ago I tried to quit caffeine cold turkey and thought I was going to die -horrible headaches, dizziness, fatigue, nausea. Maybe I should try to wean myself off more slowly and see if that helps.

I can sympathize with you but I have a good excuse I am 8 month pregnant! It's a PIA for sure. I think in the last few months- I have had to go at night every other hour- so I don't get a full night of sleep:(

Did your doc check you for Overactive Bladder? I see commercials for that all the time, and they're usually geared at older people but maybe this is what's causing your problem? I pee a lot too, more so since I've been on birth control pills the past year. Don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Birth control can have something to do with it, depending on what you're taking. Yasmin has an ingredient in it to prevent bloating. I take Yasmin and I pee much more often now than when I was on a different BCP.
