Do any of you see that the name brand OTC drugs work any better than the generic as long as they have the same active ingredients? And if so, which do you feel of the brand names do a better job. What's got me thinking is it seems as if the generic "Tylenol"(Equate) doesn't do the trick like it used to but I don't want to spend an arm and a leg to buy Tylenol if it doesn't do any better.

I buy generic medication all the time. I never see much of a difference whether it is prescription medication or over-the-counter.

Painkillers are funny. Some work for some people and not others. I hated Vicodin as it did nothing for pain and made me nauseous. I prefer Naproxen Sodium. Overall, they don't work all that well for me.

I usually buy generic and have never experienced a problem or felt like they didn't work as well. I generally buy them from Target, just b/c I do a lot of shopping there and I trust their other store brand stuff. I've used their versions of Advil Liqui-Gels and Tagamet, no problem.

I've never tried their "Tylenol" just because name-brand-Tylenol has never done anything to knock out my headaches, which is what I take painkillers for most often.

I've never had a problem with generic OTC drugs. I wouldn't know about Tylenol, because the brand name never did anything for me, so I wouldn't bother trying the generic. However, I don't find much of a difference between store brand generic ibuprofen or Advil.

I'm using a generic of Allegra (fexofenadine) now and can honestly say it's the best working of all the allergy meds I've tried. I like my Tylenol though, so I never got the generic (plus, I don't use it that often to have it make a financial difference---knock on wood!).

I buy the generic version if the brand name is too expensive - for example, I've been using Walmart's generic version of Claritin for the past few years and I've found that they both work the same. If I can afford the name brand though I will buy it, especially Excedrin Migraine because I get headaches often.

I've never had a problem with generics. They get the job done and help me save money.

I've never seen a difference between generic and name brand drugs. I always buy generic because it's cheaper. Actually, I buy generic everything (food, vitamins, pills, etc)...it's basically the same exact product.

We thought generic is just the same, but that changed after we tried the generic version of Colgate Totally tooth paste. It was the worst thing we've ever put in our mouths!! My husband and I swore that we'll get the real thing from now on.

Yeah, I buy generic as well. However, I've found that Tylenol Extra Strength Rapid Release gels are hands down, the best thing for me if I have a headache. And Target doesn't seem to make a generic brand of that (where I buy most everything like that) , so I buy the name brand there. Otherwise, I always use generic OTC medicines...

I have seen the Tylenol gel type generics at Walmart and even at Big Lots.

Thanks everyone...looks like generics pretty much is the choice other than maybe a couple products. Makes you wonder how the name brand ones stay in business since pretty much everyone is buying the generic?

I think the brand name ones are under patent protection for a certain amount of time before they can make a generic and sell it. Not 100% sure though, but I think I remember hearing something about that.
