View Full Version : Hair Product...Beware!

I'm not bashing the company...Ban De Terre...as a whole. I've only tried this 1 product...it was a sample I was given.

Ban De Terre Strengthening Mud Mask. I used 1 sample packet and my hair (it's color-deposited darker than my natural mousey blonde) lost about 80% of it's color from the 1 single application. Yes, I followed the directions.

What surprises me most is this is a moisturizing/strengthening product. It's called a "mud mask", but there's no clay, stripping, or clarifying qualities about it...as if comparing it to a mud mask, for example. It's a heavy, thick, creamy conditioner that's colored brown. Kind of reminded me of the Humectress in consistency.

I'm in complete shock! I am so careful with my product choices because of my color. I've even used VO5 and Suave products in a pinch when traveling and they have never stripped my color as much as this did. The only upside is my stylist was able to add a color job to my scheduled cut this weekend, so I'll get it fixed soon.

Just wanted to share.

Yikes! Sorry you had such a bad experience!

I actually love Suave and VO5 products. :)

I love suave and VO5 too. I used to use them all the time, but since my colors, they do strip out the color more than my biolage. Too bad.

Man, Gayle, that's scary! Glad you can get it fixed though. Have you thought about writing the company to tell them what happened? I would think they'd want to be aware of something like this.

I'm kind of thinking about sending an email to them. I know I'd be upset if I sold the product & found out it was stripping color like that.

That sucks that they strip your color; I don't color my hair anymore, so I wouldn't know. If you're into Biolage, there's a knock-off called Bioinfusion at Walgreens and I like their Hydrating Conditioning Balm better than any Bioloage conditioner I've tried. I'm afraid to rec things for you though...I don't want to aid in stripping your color further! :p ;)

Eeek, that's terrible! I don't use color-protectant shampoo right now and I can tell my color is lightening up slowly.

Follow-up...I did write a quick email to the company. I let them know I was not looking for free stuff or any compensation...I just wanted to report what happenned & hopefully they could look into it for their own info.

I got a pre-fab email response saying thank you & they have forwarded the info to their QA/QC department.

So, that's the end of it. I hope they use the info well.

I'm so sorry that happened to you, Gayle! It sucks to have your color stripped, esp by a product you're using to *help* your hair.

So many products can be culprits though, if they're acidic. My hairdresser always talks about a stylist he knew that would recommend Prell shampoo for getting rid of any at home color mistakes-- it takes the color right out. haha.

Goodness! I would be angry! I've ruined my color plenty of times using shampoos that I didn't know were that harsh or cheap ones that read "color-safe"

Thanks so much for posting about this. I'd be furious if that happened to me.
Anyone who colors their hair knows how inconvenient it is to do when you don't have much time so for something like this to happen would really be a nightmare.

My mom was a hairdresser and she would recommend dish soap for at-home disasters.:)

I've heard of the prell and dish soap and I even had a friend who swore by powder tide to get rid of chlorine residue on blondes
(green hair)
I would never have the nerve to use that on my hair, I even find it too harsh for my laundry!!

I got a sample of this in the mail. I had completely forgot that I had requested it through their site a while back and immediately remembered this post. Thanks again for posting about it. I would have probably used it and cried my eyes out if I hadn't read this.

I gave it to my mom.
