Keeping up with the salon theme. I was wondering have you ever had a disaster occur at the salon. I once had my hair colored orange at the salon. I looked like carrot top. I asked for light brown not orange hair.

I've never had a disaster but I've been shocked to tears at the salon before. I don't cry in front of the hair dresser cause I don't want them to feel bad. When I first dyed my hair from dark dirty blonde to super Barbie blonde I cried hysterically. A week later I loved it.

Then again when I asked her to darken it with lowlights and brown on the bottom it was way darker than I wanted. I cried the whole way home. Then the color faded a little bit and I loved it.

So, that seems to happen whenever I do something drastic with my hair.

I went to another salon recently to save some money on a hair cut and it was a disaster!!! My cut is so uneven and it looks horrible. All my co-workers said it looked horrible and that didn't help matters :( You get what you pay for :( The salon that I have been going to for color they are pricey but they don't listen to you they keep insisting to give me copper highlights and I hate that orange color with a passion!!! So yeah I've had the orange thing and it's not good. My colorist moved to Ireland and since then I haven't been able to find another good one. The search continues I guess.....

I had orange highlights once, but then I got them fixed for free.

This is the same thing that happened to me. I went to another salon a friend recommended to me and got it fixed with reverse highlighting. It was a terrible experience. I didn't get my hair colored for a VERY long time.

I'm too scared to colour my hair- I would be upset if I hated it, that includes not even trusting a hairdresser with the job.

My only disaster I guess wasn't that bad- I was 14 and went to the hairdresser just to get the ends trimmed. Instead she trimmed a whopping 6-7 inches off. I didn't realise because I couldn't see behind me and curly hair looks longer when wet. She knew, she offered to style it in this up do for me. When I got up the next morning and undid the pins, hair was dry by then- and very short (I hate my hair short). For 8 years I stuck to trimming my own, and when i do go to get a trim I watch everything like a hawk.

The only real hair disaster I can think of, is when I wanted to be blonde. I didn't think she would dye it almost platinum blonde! I just wanted a natural looking brown-blonde transition. Ugh. But, that was 3 yrs ago.

Definitely the worst was when I dyed my hair super dark brown on my own, then wanted to get it back to blonde at a salon. It wasn't their fault, but my hair was so damaged and they bleached it so many times that my hair texture looked so awful. The color was brassy and I had breakage like you wouldn't believe. I got it cut super short, and though I didn't love the short hair at least I cut all the damage off.

I had bleach blond hair at the time. In an attempt to same money on a touch-up, I went to the chain called "Colorific". The color itself turned out nice, and I was thrilled it only took an hour versus the 2½-3 hours I was used to.

Well, a couple weeks later, my hair started breaking off all over the place. I first blamed my daughter (she was 6 months old & constantly pulling my hair). Then, I noticed it was broken off & scraggly in places DD never even pulled.

I then blamed it on post-pregnancy hair fallout.

My next proper salon visit, I talked to my guy about what was happening & he explained how fried my hair was all of a sudden. I told him about Colorific & how they did it. Speed processing with excessive heat was the culprit.

Never again. If I'm getting a color, I'm going to people I know & trust. Period.

Many years ago, when frosting was in, I had gotten my hair to the point of being overly highlighted, so the stylist said we could just "frost the roots"

I looked like a skunk with a set of thick white horizontal stripes down the middle of my head. Did NOT match the over done but still pretty honey blondes highlights.

I have never let a stylist color my hair since. I do my own base color and hi-lights, and get many complements or inquirys about who does my color!
I know my hair best, how long to leave on, what color I'm trying to achieve, etc. and I am never going to be put in that position again till I'm a 95 year old getting a blue rinse!

you highlight your own hair that's awesome. I have been wanting to do that. But I don't dare to.
