View Full Version : The Blonde/Brunette Debate - IMAGE HEAVY!!!

So since the age of 13, I've been flip flopping between brown and blonde hair. I just can't seem to decide which I prefer!
I originally thought my hair was blonde, so I dyed it blonder. Then I saw dark roots and thought it was brown and dyed it brown. Then the sun would lighten it, I'd go light, and the cycle went on. I currently have medium brown hair faded to dark blonde....and I noticed some veeeeery light roots in some places.
While some people look great with that in-between blonde and brown color... I do not like it on myself. I prefer light/medium blonde or medium brown. Since my roots are coming in (and I haaaate roots!), I need to make the decision again, blonde or brown.
Here's some pics of me with my many shades:

You are one of those lucky people that looks great in both colors! I really like the light brown shade you have in the picture with the little girl. To me it looks to be the most flattering to your skin tone. : )

You do look great as both, but I think you look esp. gorgeous as a brunette.

Wow. I can't decide which I like best. You're kinda like Cameron Diaz. She looks great with both colors. Your skin doesn't seem to look redder when it's blonde-like mine did when I dyed it last year.

The color in the last picture look great. The brown shade when you're wearing the dangly green earrings looks awesome too.
My co-worker does this too. She looks great as a blonde and brunette and goes back and forth every few months. She's currently a dark chocolate shade. I bet in a month she'll start adding in blonde highlights.
On myself I've always preferred blonde. I tried a light brown shade this summer and I just hated it. It was a pretty color but I felt kinda boring and plain. I like the "sunny" feeling of blondness. My natural color is a dark blonde with subtle reddish highlights. The bottom 3/4 of it is that butter blonde shade I did last year. I haven't touched it in 6 months. I actually like it and I get a lot of compliments. It's kinda like how Sarah Jessica Parker wore hers on the last season of Sex and the City(just not as dark). I plan on getting blonde highlights more towards the Spring.

I love the dark brown color you have, 3rd pic from the top.
I'm thinking of going back to my natural color, too. I've been getting highlights and becoming more and more blonde. It's ok, but i miss my dark brown. :p

I agree that you're definitely a person that can pull off both! My favorites though are the light brown shade in pic #1 of your first post, and the darker brown shade in pic #1 of your second post. My absolute favorite is the first one though.

I like the light brown on you, in the picture of you with the little girl. Blonde looks great too!

I seem to be the lone voice of dissent, but I really love you as a blonde! Not that there's anything wrong with you as a brunette (because you're gorgeous), but the blonde just seems to warm up your complexion or something. Let us know what you do!

I think the lighter shades (blonde or very light brown) flatter you more. I agree with Allistar and the others that the picture of you with the little girl is the best one.

Even though I'm a huge fanatic of brown hair (I'm a brunette), I think you look much younger and brighter as a blonde. Don't get me wrong, you also look nice with brown hair, but the blonde is more striking.

I agree with Rach, I love the color of your hair best in the pic of you in the dangly green earrings. I think you look better as a brunette. :)

I believe both suit you well. Your skin tone seems to support you no matter what you choose. How lucky! If it came down to it I would say go with blonde.

I too think you can pull off either color quite well.I'm not sure why but I've always thought that gorgeous blue eyes and brunette hair was one of the prettiest combos but it's hard to choose because the blonde definitely suits you as well. If I was forced to choose the brunette would only slightly edge out the blonde.
I like the color of your hair in the picture with the long turquoise earrings...kind of a reddish brown.
Please let me know, is your color in the picture with the little girl natural...anyway why I ask is it's EXACTLY the same color of my hair and if it's colored could you tell me what color you use if you do it yourself because I need that color to cover some gray hairs! HEEHEE! ;)
You look a lot like Charlize Theron. She's always bouncing between blonde and brown hair too. I think she just looks more glamorous blonde but looks more "girl next door" with brown hair.

Wow, you're so lucky to look great either way! It's hard to decide. I like the picture of you with the baby and you with the dog equally!

I think I'm "4th"-ing the vote for the shade in the pic w/the green dangly earrings -- it's so rich! I adore it!
But as has already been pointed out, you do look great in either color. I think that the dark hair on you looks more sophisticated, but that's just MHO.
You're beautiful either way, but I favor the dark hair on you :)!

Like everyone has said, you're very lucky you can pull off both colors beautifully and naturally but I love how the blonde color looks on you.

Thanks guys! As you can tell from your responses, it's a very divided topic! I'm leading towards going blonde but I think I'm going to seek some stylist advice. Thanks again!

It will be interesting to see which shade you pic, ScottyBabe! Have you ever thought about doing a light brown like in your very first pic but then adding blonde highlights in? Then you could have the best of both worlds.

I think you look great with all of those hair colors but I prefer you as a blonde. I think it warms up your complexion more.

For your complexion, I think you look lovely with blonde hair. Medium brown gives you a more paler complexion.

Like everyone else, I think you look great in both.
I think if you're wanting to look more striking, go for the dark. If you're wanting to look more freshfaced and sunny, go for the blonde.
I lean towards the brown because I always tend to want to go darker in the winter and then change to brighter in the summer.
But I dont know.... I'm anxious to hear what you decide :)
