I'm realizing how great boots are in fall and winter, tucked into jeans and with dresses. I'd like to step it up a notch and get some leather ones that arent so Ugg-esque but I have wide calves and have trouble getting boots to zip up. I've done searches online but am not finding what I want (for less than $150 anyways).
I know some boots just have wider circumferences (like some from Payless I have). Does anyone else here have this problem and have any suggestions for stores/brands? TIA

You might want to check out sites like Roamans (which has links to it's sister sites) and lane bryant/lane bryant catalog. I've bought boots from Roamans for wide calves and they've held up well. IIRC they do give measurements as well (I haven't bought shoes from them since late '06)

I have short legs, so my calves aren't as slim. I find that boots with zippers will fit if the top has a stretch gore thing, or if it's non-leather and is the stretchy material. Unless you want a shorter boot, like a pant boot, as opposed to a knee high. HTH.

These are really cute ones I tried on this winter and have wider calves:

There are a bit $ but very comfy and you might be able to find them cheaper somewhere. I was so bummed they were wider because my calves are average.

I have wider calves also, and I really love Frye boots. They are pricey, but worth it, and they go on sale pretty often. Urban Outfitters carries them...as do a few online retailers. I believe Becky (cutie123) got a pair for a pretty decent price last winter.
My favorite styles are the campus (a classic riding boot) and the Villager (a higher heeled lace up style)

Shoumi's right, I did get a great pair of Frye boots in the summer! I actually bought on eBay and paid only $60 (normally they retail for a couple hundred). I have thin calves and the ones I bought are fitted, but I've heard many are wider.

I never used to think that I had wide calves until I started wearing knee-length boots last year. Every time I'd take them off at the end of the day, I'd have red indents in my legs and my legs would be sore. Since I had to replace all my boots because I lost mine in the fire, I decided to try ones that are wider. I bought a pair at Famous Footwear that I love. They are brown with a silver buckle on the side, and somewhat cowgirlish. And they are comfy! So I know how you feel because I can't wear the super-fitted boots either.

Having been heavier in my youth, the skin on my legs is pretty flabby and my calves are kind of big. I've found that boots that don't go all the way up to the knee are pretty good. I've also had luck with a few boot styles from Nine West :). I tend to usually go to places like Shoe Pavillion and DSW, since I can try on as many boots as necessary, until I can find a pair that works :D

A UK company called DUO specialise in making boots that fit your calf. They have 21 different sizes, so whether you are skinny, 'normal', or curvy, they are guaranteed to fit you will (and the zip will definitely do up!). They have a sale on at the moment so may come within your budget even with shipping on top.
I have 4 pairs and they are jsut amazing! I thought I would never be able to buy boots that fitted me until I found DUO.
Happy shopping x
