I have been facing problems of blackheads and they seem to be getting worse. It really makes you look ugly and I am worried that if they will ever go away. If anyone of you has been in a similar situation or may be if you people know the cure for this, please let me know.

The best solution would probably be to first go and have a nice facial, and have the professional extract the blackheads for you. Then I would recommend using a gentle exfoliant every day, and a salicylic acid or retinol treatment at night before bed.

Glycolic acid works. I've had persistent blackheads since I hit puberty when I was like 11 or 12. I tried everything including Retin-A and Accutane. I tried Peter Thomas Roth 10% Glycolic Acid after reading good reviews on MUA. I ordered it from Sephora and started using it every night before bed. It has made a dramatic difference. It's like $40 but it comes in a large pump and you only need a little bit.:)

Yeah, glycolic is good too. Just make sure you ease into it so that your skin gets used to it!

I agree with BetteroffBuffless. First, get a good facial, and have them vacuumed or extracted. Then use a nightly salicylic acid (beta-hydroxy) treatment. Beta-hydroxy acid is oil soluble, so it penetrates into the pore, dissolving the oil and exfoliating the dead skin cells that line the pore. These cells flake off and mix with the oil. It gets thick, sticky and BANG! You've got a blackhead. Glycolic acid exfoliates, but it's water-soluble, not oil soluble, so it's not quite as effective against oily plugs. Neutrogena makes an awesome salicylic acid product called Acne Stress Control 3-in-1 Hydrating treatment. It's weightless, loaded with antioxidants and anti-irritants, and it has the proper pH to work. An acid product must have a pH of between 3 and 4 on the pH scale, otherwise the acid is neutralized and no longer effective. Clearasil Daily Blackhead Control Pads with Natural Sea Salt are also effective and available at the drugstore.
AVOID using a moisturizer over the areas (you've already got too much oil) and don't use toners with alcohol. You can't dry up oil (put some in the sun on a plate, and see if it evaporates), but you can irritate skin so much that it stimulates the glands and they produce more oil in response. Be gentle. Be consistent. Be patient.

A good salicylic acid treatment to try is Clinique Acne Solutions Spot Healing Gel. My dermatologist recommended this to me. I don't have blackheads, but I do get breakouts and I use Retin-A at night. She suggested this as a day treatment under my makeup on trouble spots, and it really works.

For drugstore brands I had a lot of luck with the Garnier PURE line...
I use the Face wash, pore shrinking toner and PURE-A night gel.
But I do agree with the suggestions to get a professional facial and extraction too - it'll make things much easier.

I've honestly always had better luck with AHAs like glycolic acid or BHAs for blackheads.

This is my problem too! I agree that AHA seems to help alot more than BHA - I use MDF Daily Peel Pads every morning. I'm interested in that Neutrogena treatment though!

Definitely try AHA or BHA. I get it from www.gardenofwisdom.com

This is gonna sound a little gross, but I have a little metal extraction tool I use for blackheads. It's made by Revlon, and it has a tiny hole on the end for popping out blackheads. I only use it on my nose, but it has made a difference(it looked like I had freckles before) :o
