Does anyone know where to go or who to talk to about selling off a wedding ring? I know I could go to the jewelery store it was purchased from (a proper local jeweler...not a chain store) and get info and advice there, but does anyone have any tips or experiences? The diamond and the gold are fairly substantial, so it's more than pocket change.
I'm not interested in trying EBay/online, or putting an ad in the paper.
Anyone know about selling rings?
My first thought is to get it appraised, so you know what you are working with.
I did a quick search and found this article, which might be of help. Some inside scoop about how jewelers price things, etc.

And here's a recent (last Nov) article from the NY Times about selling jewelry:

Most folks I know that have been through this sold it to a professional jeweler.
They can either resell the same piece but more often they'll disassemble it and reuse the gold/silver/platinum and gemstones.
If you want to sell it fast to get rid of it a pawn shop is good too.
But you'll get a better price from a jeweler.
(personally I threw my old engagement ring into a lake HAHA).

Thanks for the info so far. Yeah, those article links are in-line with the info I've found.
I have had a proper appraisal done so I could get insurance on it, so I do know the "value". I'm in no rush, nor do I have a need to sell it to have cash. It's just a big gaudy ring that I didn't want in the first place, it holds bad memories, and am figuring it's half $$ value is more useful to me than the little space it takes up.

I was just watching a news story about the price of gold. It has gone sky high, and they were saying that if you have any gold jewelry you want to sell, there's no better time than now.
