So I went to an officall dermatologist today..

As a rant however, I had a 10:30 AM appointment, got there 10 minutes early to fill out paperwork (since I've never been to the office before) and I didn't get seen until 12 noon! How ridiculous! Thank goodness I didn't have any other appointments today.

Anyways..

I went there for 2 reasons. 1) For my acne 2) My scalp/head has been hurting since after my hair stopped coming out (due to taking the Yasmin pill).

For the acne he prescribed a pill and a topical (I can't remember the name, I'll post back since it was scribbled on the paper). He seemed like a nice guy but definitely seems like he's from the old-school. For example, and I don't agree with these comments, I asked him what moisturizer I should use for my face. He asks me, "why do you use a moisturizer? for what reason?" So i replied, well my skin is dry due to all the acne stuff i've been using, and it can just get really rough sometimes. He says, eh the moisturizers are just marketed to the women so they buy something else. Someone your age (I'm 20) shouldn't need any moisturizer. Then I asked, any cleansers you recommend, right now I'm using Dove's Sensitive Skin Beauty Bar. "Don't use Dove, thats moisturizing. Use something that lathers, like a foaming Neutrogena wash". (I've told him before this comment, I've used Neutrogena and it doesn't do anything but dry me out. and BTW, Dove isn't very moisturizing. It can be drying at times.)

HMM.. So we'll see.

I can't believe they made you wait till noon! That's ridiculous and he doesn't sound like a very good doctor...

Yeah, IDK about all that advice. It seems he has a one-size-fits-all theory for treating acne and it definitely doesn't work that way!!

If the treatments he prescribed don't work out (I hope they do!) go see an esthetician, either at a day spa or a med spa. An esthetician really made a huge difference in my skin, and I personally think they are amazing! :D

I agree that he doesn't seem like a very good doctor because he is so set in his ways. My dermatologist would never say not to use moisturizer. I use tretinoin and it's very drying, so she always tells me to use a moisturizer over it. I hope that what he prescribed works for you though!

He does sound really old school. I think you should listen to your own skin concerning moisturizer. What about young people who have dry skin? That sounds like BS to me. I'd stick with the Dove bar too if it's working for you. I could never ever use one of those... I tried the Oil Free Acne Wash as a pre-teen and it burned the hell out of my skin. If his prescriptions work for you, that's good, but if not, I'd try someone else next time. I just don't like this guy LOL. :p

My dermatologist recommended moisturizers to me! It doesn't sound he took your individual case as just that-and individual case.
