I just colored my hair a couple weeks ago & there are already several gray hairs on my temples & on top of my head.

I always use Loreal Preference, but now I'm wondering if it's not getting rid of the gray like it's supposed to.

Are there any at-home hair color products that really do cover gray hair for up to 6 weeks???

The only brand of hair color that has covered my grays well is Feria.
I started getting grays at age 27 (It's genetics. My grandfather started turning gray at 18 y/o. Another female cousin of mine also started graying at 27).
I think most of the time people will chose the wrong shade or a shade too light to cover grays.
I recently wanted to use an ash shade to reduce the reddness in my hair and went with Preference Medium Ash Brown since Feria doesn't have ash shades in their collection. My roots with the grays were still noticable after I used it so I went and got Preference Dark Ash Brown and it covered my grays perfectly.

I recently saw a solution called "No Grays" in a Rite Aid ad and you're suppose to add it to any haircolor to help cover grays. I'm curious to try it out and see how it works.

I've always used an "ash" color to color my hair, so maybe that is my problem with not covering my gray. Hmmmm.

I don't want dark hair though so I'd rather not go that route. I think the grays would show up even more against dark hair, ya know? I tend to stay in the light-medium brown hair color range.

According to Loreal's website, the Excellence Creme will cover 76-100% gray. Maybe I should try that instead?

My mom is prematurely gray, and she uses L'oreal Excellence Creme and has for years. It covers 100%, and I know because I'm the one who does her hair. I do the roots first, especially saturating the places where it's most gray (along the part, crown, bangs/temples) and leave that on for 25 minutes (starting from the time I finish). After that, I apply it to her whole head, and that's 10 minutes from the time I start. Unless I just happen to miss a place, it's 100% coverage. You should give it a try!

I'll be 50 in November, and I've been using good old Revlon Colorsilk in "Light Ash Brown" for years. It covers all the gray, but regrowth is fast. I recently switched to "Light Ash Blonde" just to do the roots, so my hair lightens up gradually as I get older. It's $2.97 per box at Wal-Mart!

Most of the women in my family use L'Oreal Excellence as well!

Personally I decided to stop dying mine last spring,
and last time I dyed my hair it was just then ends to blend the bleached blonde into my natural colour. I used L'Oreal Excellence then come to think of it! It's very moisturizing and conditioning which is probably why it works so well.

So 'm going gray too.
:D I find it beautiful.

Another rec if you haven't tried it is the Clairol Herbal Instincts line.

I think I'll try the Excellence Creme. I wonder if anyone has it on sale this week...I'm off to go look!

Definitely keep an eye out in the Sunday paper for coupons. Occasionally I'll find $2 off coupons. The last one I found was a BOGOF coupon. It was up to a $9.99 value. Well at Walmart, I found the double packs (like a special promotion thing), and they were $9.97. So we got 2 double packs using the coupon for like $10. That was crazy! If you have to dye often, those packs and coupons are a good thing to watch out for!

My mom is about 80% gray & uses that new Perfect 10 haircolor & it looks AMAZING! Full coverage, but w/ natural highlights! And her hair looks/feels supersoft.
