View Full Version : Have you given yourself a makeup challenge?

*I hope this hasn't been posted already*

-Erica (FiestyFemme) had mentioned in another post that a lot of her non-MAC makeup has been neglected, a lot of my stuff has been too so I gave myself the challenge of using things that are non-MAC! My poor Nars blushes, Clinique glosses, Lancome liners, etc. are just sitting there collecting dust! It's time to use them! So, that's what I'll do!

The only MAC items I will probably continue using though are my Studio Fix powder, Bronze bronzer (for contouring) and Blitz 'n Glitz Fluidline because it's getting dry and I cant bring myself to throw it out until I use it up! haha

-Another thing, my mascaras! I have several coloured ones that I need to use ASAP or I'll just throw them out! :( They were a bit pricey too!

-Use more nude lip colours! I always go for bright pinks or reds and always afraid to look dead but I've just got to!

Anyway, what about you? :)

My challeneg is to simply stop buying. I can't go a single week without purchasing something. Yesterday, I dropped another handful of cash on 2 Loreal HIP cream shadows and the new Sally Hansen Natural eyeshadow trio. I'm not bound to any one brand - I love it all!

I've been trying to get some of my lighter lip colors into rotation. I realized the other day that most of what I've been wearing are darker berries/plum shades. I apply them lightly so they leave a stain, but since it's warmer now, I think I'll make more use of my lighter "lemonade" lippies.
I always thought I looked better in deeper shades, but now I seem to be heading the opposite way.

I'm trying to experiment with my makeup and do different looks. I just bought the original MAC Viva Glam l/s, a deep red, which is so unlike me. I really like the look, though! I tend to do very light eyes so I'm trying to switch up the shades I use and add some liner. I want to use everything I own!

Use up what I've got, to clear out clutter and save money.

I guess I should try to incorporate my non-MAC items. If I can use and love them, good, and if not, I need to try to swap/sell them away. Also, I want to continue to be smart about my purchases. For instance, since February, I've acquired 3 hot pink/fuschia lippies. I do not need anymore, no matter how pretty/different/whatever they are.

I just need to organize my stash and repurchase the essentials.
I've been doing well on the makeup front for some time.

I was just thinking, and I thought of something else! I need to challenge myself to wear lipstick or gloss (or both!) every day. I'm really bad to not wear anything other than balm. I have way too many lip products not to be wearing them, and I'm afraid they're going to go bad before I use them up. I also need to challenge myself to reapply lip stuff throughout the day, as I'm also bad to just put it on once and that's it. *sigh*

Experiment with eye shadow more. I've been in my default eye shadow look rut lately.

It would be an amazing thing if I could downgrade from my full makeup face from time to time. Say I go to Stewarts on Sunday morning for a paper I don't usually buy. It takes 30 - 40 minutes of careful thought-out makeup application combined with internet surf-time (in case I need inspiration!) to get into the car, wearing the sweats I slept in, and go out. For 10 mintes. I'm wearing foundation, concealer, eyeshadow & liner, brows, and sometimes blush but not always. Oh, yeah, and lips. Usually gloss, but always lips.
Jeez.
If I could only tone it down.

I have several right now...
1) No more purchases!!! I have enough taupe e/s, peachy blushes, and nude/light pink l/g to last me for all eternity :p
2) To actually reapply my l/s or gloss throughout the day
3) To wash my brushes regularly ;)
4) To try different looks rather than sticking w/ my usual neutral eyes.

I mostly try to go through my stuff once every month or two. I've really gotten my stash pared down but I still have too much stuff.

When I buy something new (other than when it's a backup of a staple item like mascara) I try to throw out another item. It really helps to cut down on impulse buys when you know that it means you have to get rid of the same number of items you already have.

I've gotten out of the habit of buying something just because it's LE/DC'd. I don't need something that wont work for me just because other people want it, I've read reviews on MUA where people give something 5 stars and list the reason as "It was LE and is a collectors item and even though it doesn't work for me I love it for how rare it is" Ugh, that's just weird to me, why buy something if you know it won't look right on you?

Other than that I've decided to try and play around with more colors that I've always said don't work for me. Just to play with them enough to see if I can make them work or if I need to give up on them.

I definitely need to limit my make-up purchases. As much as I love this site and sites such as Makeup Alley, I feel like they feed my buying impulses. Everytime I read a rave on a new eyeliner or foundation or whatever, I get the urge to go out and buy it. I need to control these urges. Right now I have plenty of foundation, blush, mascara, powder, and eyeshadow. The only things I may need more of are eyeliners in basic colors and lipsticks because I only have glosses but lately I want something non-sticky on my lips.

Basically I challenge myself to work with what I've got and only buy something if I feel it actually fills a NEED not a WANT.

My new m/u chest arrived, and I'm really excited to fill it up. Only the things that I use and love will get a space in it. Otherwise, it will get tossed or relegated to my shoebox full of rejects (we've been over this before, I just can't get rid of "good" stuff). It's going to look great, I think. I really have been pretty good this year about not buying too much new makeup.

I've been really good lately with my makeup purchases. I've only repurchased staples, and I've only bought a couple of new items in the past two months. Since my stash is very small compared to a lot of ladies' stashes on this board, I really can't think of a challenge for myself because I use everything fairly regularly. I do need to use a few of my MAC pigments more that I've been neglecting, but that's about it.

Mine is just not to buy anymore unless it's LE (and I absolutely have to have it) or replacing. I haven't purchase any makeup for 3 weeks at least already, hopefully I'll continue to go strong. I have way too much and I can't wear much makeup during the weekdays (no time when you have a little baby).

Clear out clutter. I have a huge bag of stuff that I need to go through and put up for giveaway.

Like most of you girls, basically try to stop buying makeup (except for a couple of eyeshadows), and to shop from my stash. I have a very small stash compared to most of you on here, but it's still more than enough for me, lol.
