My doctor prescribed Paxil to me yesterday for depression and borderline personality disorder. I took my first dose today, and within 3 hours of taking it, I felt very jittery, hyper-awake, goofy and "on." Prior to this med, I was normally very withdrawn, tired, and had trouble focusing. My doctor mentioned that some people feel jittery when taking this and others feel tired, so that I should adjust the time that I take the medicine to coincide with this if I felt either of these (so obviously, morning was the correct time for me to take it).

Also, I have been completely not hungry today. I ordered a small lunch and didn't take more than a couple of bites.

I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced this. I wasn't sure whether this is a result of my brain being "down" for so long, or whether it's a side effect I might not have with another med. If you've taken this, what were your experiences and if you had jitters at first, did they eventually subside?

I know on my 1st 2-3 days of Celexa I felt really jittery/weird. I don't know if the side effects would be similar? I think any of these anti-depressants take a little while to "get in your system".

I took Paxil for maybe two years. I honestly can't remember any side effects of it but I'd say give it a few more days. Your doctor mentioned that you might feel jittery after all. Generally side effects go away once your body gets used to the ned medication, if it's particularly bothersome or doesn't go away then you should let your doctor know.

Keep in mind that it may take several weeks for it to actually start working so don't be alarmed if your depression doesn't go right away but you may need to try more than one before you find the one that works.

I'd never go on Paxil again because even weening myself off per my doctors instructions I had the worst withdrawal symptoms. I was horribly ill for two weeks during a heat wave:( It took forever to feel okay again. I also would feel bad if I missed a day. Just a little warning. Also, if it hasn't been mentioned to you, you should try and take it the same time every day.

One thing I've found useful (though this was for a pyhsical problem) is keeping a journal and writing down how you feel, that way you can bring it up to your doctor and not forget to bring up anything that might be a concern.

I was on it for awhile and while it helped with my depression, I would never take it again because it made me tired, and gave me such an appetite and made me retain water, so I gained a lot of weight. After I got off of it, my appetite went back to normal and I lost all the weight fairly quickly. I think it affects everyone differently, but I remember reading that it made a lot of other people gain weight also.

It worked really well for my Mum and now she doesn't take anything. It was perfect for her while she was attending nursing school. Unfortunately she ended up having trouble coming off of it because it is quite addictive.

One of the reasons I chose to go with Celexa, because I just dealt with my other addictions within the last 2 years and didn't want to risk it.
