I thought I would say a quick hello, provide a little info about me, and talk a little about some potential future iCompact updates.
My mini-bio:
I started off my working life as a photographic assistant / aspiring photographer.. After about a year of that I was approached by the (then) editor of HK Elle to shoot an editorial. Soon thereafter I went freelance, and spent the better part of the next 10 years working as a fashion photographer.
My appreciation of good makeup was biased from behind the lens, so while I never paid much attention to the brands the end result was critical. I have worked with some superb makeup artists over the years and a few celebrities - I even have a Kate Moss Elle cover in my book http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.
Running parallel to photography I've always been a complete computer geek, gamer, and hacker of sorts - which eventually brought Maeve and I to California. Around 1999 I co-founded a internet startup and the rest is a pretty typical story for that time: We raised some money, moved to Silicon Valley, and proceeded to spend the next few years working on some very cool technology. Unfortunately the company folded after a few years which is when I decided to take a break and work on some websites.
Amoung the sites I've worked on, one of my favourites is fortheface.com - I concentrated on the design and programming while Maeve did (IMO) a great job of populating the beauty brands and researching/writing.
Maeve and I felt that we really wanted to expand and grow a network of *quality* beauty and fashion sites and after a little exploration we fell in love with iCompact. More than anything, it was obvious that iCompact was created by someone with passion (kudos Aimee!) and brought to life by a wonderful community that was friendly, fun and passionate (that's you!). We spent some time talking with Aimee about the possibility of helping to update and grow iCompact. I'm happy to say that she felt confident in our ability and commitment to grow iCompact while keeping the safe and friendly atmosphere of the community.
So that's the brief history, but what about the future?
iCompact +
In the near term there will be some minor updates - removing pop-up ads, cleaning up some broken links, and adding some promo links to fortheface.
Over the next few months we'll be looking at a number of improvements including reworking the review system, updating the layout and moving to faster servers. Most importantly we want to hear what sort of features YOU would like to see.
My primary role here will be as developer and webmaster. TBH I don't even read the forums so you probably won't see me posting much unless there is a technical announcement or something. After all, Maeve is the one with a three foot stack of Allures. http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
What I *will* be doing is working on the design and programming to grow IC. I'll also drop in every so often to read the tech support forums.
Thanks for making iCompact the special place that it is, I hope to be able to make some positive contributions!
