View Full Version : Do you think Lipgloss has a age limit?!

I mean, the ultra shine, super glossy lipglosses. They look fabulous on the younger girls and in the magazines where the models are young too.

I tried some on the other day and weren't sure if I look right! LOL! I use moisturising lipsticks and skip lipgloss; so I don't know if I'm just not used to it or super shiny lips don't look as good on mature ladies?!

I suppose it depends on the type of gloss, your features and the look you want.

If the gloss has huge chunks of glitter, then I would generally say it might not be flattering on a mature lady.

Also if you have a lot of lines/ wrinkles around your lip area then gloss may bring attention to them by being all shiney and look at me.

I use gloss over l/s and I find that it usually makes my lips look fuller.

You might just be a l/s fan (as opposed to l/g) and there is nothing wrong with that. My life before icompact I only had one l/g, now I can't imagine not wearing it. Ultimately, it is each to their own. If you feel comfortable wearing it, go for it. If you don't, stick to l/s.

I think it depends on the type of gloss also. Like ck_nd mentioned, there are the super-shiny vinyl type ones, glitter ones, thick ones, thinner ones..... Part of it depends on wrinkling around the mouth too, which l/g can cause easier bleeding than l/s. In my 30's now, I find that wearing non-glitter l/g makes me look younger than wearing l/s.

I love the Revlon Super Lustrous Glosses. They feel great on, are sheer, but still look like my lips but better. I'm def on the "old" side & love glosses. They don't bleed like lipstick does on me, either.

ITA with the others! It depends on your style. I personally think that gloss gives a younger, fresher look. If you have a lot of lines around the lipline, you may want to avoid it, but then again maybe a liner would help prevent the bleeding. If you feel more comfortable with lipstick I say go for it.

I don't think there's anything wrong with older women wearing lipgloss. I'm 22 myself. It might look weird on someone in their 80's but not in their 30's or 40's. I see celebs doing that all the time.

I honestly think sometimes gloss makes people look younger than lipstick does. My MawMaw is almost 70, and she wears the L'oreal CJ I picked out for her, and she looks good. I think it's a lot more flattering on her than lipstick. Just MHO though!

I'm 52 and wear it all the time. When I try to wear lip stick, it dries my lips and I always end up putting gloss over it.

I'm 28, and I love lipgloss.

Also, I agree with the previous comments that sometimes gloss can actually help older women to look younger! I think gloss or lipstick with a cream finish tends to be the most flattering look on older women as matte can accentuate fine lines around the mouth.

I think it depends on the gloss, and the woman. My gramma is 86.. and it would look strange on her. LOL But my mom could definitely wear it and look good. I think each woman just needs to try it, and judge for herself.

I am 31, and LOVE lip gloss. Mind you, I don't use the glittery, super shiny stuff that I see a lot of teenagers wearing ... I like having a bit of a sheen to my lips, though. It feels nicer to wear, and I agree with the fullness factor. http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I agree...I was thinking the same thing. It might look odd if you're around 80 but otherwise wear what you want! You could mix it with a nice lipstick to blend everything in.

I'm pushing 36 and I wear lip gloss almost every day. Today I wore L'Oreal Glam Shine in Bliss.

And I'm pushing 37 (gulp!) and I wear gloss more than I ever did before in my life! It adds a fullness to my lips, especially if I just dot a light shade in the middle of my lips to highlight!

No, I don't think lipgloss has an age limit. The type of lipgloss may but I prefer lipgloss to lipstick. I'm older, okay much older and I love the Philosophy Big Mouth. It's moisturizing and doesn't accentuate my wrinkles. Now if I tried one of the glosses that are geared toward a teenager, I'd look stupid. Glitter or the vinyl type lipgloss is not for older women. I'm 55.

My mom is 41 (certainly not old by any means, but she's not a teenybopper) and does NOT wear lipstick, only gloss. We both think this look is much more flattering on her, although she does tend to go with glosses that are less sheer/more opaque; almost like a liquid lipstick. It's very flattering to her, much moreso than lipstick IMO.

No, lip gloss really doesn't have an age limit. If it's too glossy and blinding then I think it's not a good choice for anyone, but regular lipglosses are always nice for everyone really. I see older models on QVC wearing it and it looks so soft and pretty that sometimes I think lip gloss is even nicer than lipsticks.

Um, yes and no. If it's glittery, shimmery or reeeally shiny, then yes.

Over lipstick to give your lips a bit of shine, then I think it's ok..or on it's own as long as it's more lipsticky looking.

I think Revlon's Super Lustrous, Chanel Glossimers, Mac Lipglasses, and Almay Whipped Glosses are all good choices!

I think lip gloss applied over certain areas, and not the whole mouth will look good. Gives a radiant natural kind a look. But glitter will look weird

I dont't think lip gloss has an age limit but color and too much shimmer does. The older you are it seems better to use less bright colors- IMHO!

ITA with the ladies...certain glosses are quite youthful, but a regular lipgloss looks great on anyone.

I don't think lipgloss has an age limit. I am in my mid 30's and don't think twice about wearing lipgloss everyday and will continue to do so. http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The closer I get to 40, the drier my lips look with lipstick. I've been reaching more for my lip glosses. Avon Glazewear and Maybelline Shinilicious are my favorites.

I'm 35, and you couldn't pry the lipgloss from my hands if you tried! http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Naturally, as already mentioned, shine and color has to be taken into consideration.

I prefer gloss to lipstick. My lips feel more soft and supple and I just feel like my whole look is fresher. My mom just turned 70 and she uses Mary Kay almond lip gloss and she looks fabulous in it!

I just turned 50 and I look so much better with l/g. I love Revlon's Cherries in the Glow -- thought it would be too dark, but it's not and it wears beautifully. I also like BB's and Neutrogena's. Wanting to try Chanel's next. It definitely has made an improvement in the condition of my lips.

My mom is 42 and only wears gloss. No lipstick for her. She looks amazing.

I don't think that lipgloss has an age limit as long as the shades the person is wearing are right for her skintone. I would also avoid a lot of glitter to prevent looking teeny-bopperish (I'm 27 and don't even like a lot of glitter). Some people simply can't wear lipstick because it's too drying for them, so lipgloss and liquid lipstick are the "it" lip products for them, and there's nothing wrong with that.

I agree!
