Hi tired old curious,

Well I know it is going to be hard with three kids and 4 dogs but enough sleep is a good start. After that drink enough water approx 2 litres and eat well i.e. minimal junk and take away food.

Along with that you may want to find a cream that helps your particular skin type i.e. dry, oily, combination, normal look its best.

If you want to go so far as to foundation bronzer, blush and all that jazz hit the make up section of the forum and ask your question there.

It will help us if you put either in your signature or in your post your skin type i.e. dry, oily etc and if you want make up advice add your skin colour, hair and eye colour.

hths and welcome to the boards.

What about trying some of those glowy creams? I can't think of any specific ones right now, but I know Avon makes one.

I'm 31 and always feel I look tired.

You know what's helping lately, though?

Moisturizer!! I always moisturized once a day before putting makeup on, but now I moisturize 4 times a day..in the morning, when I get home from work, again later on and once more before I go to bed. My skin has looked very *soft* and glowy.

Try to moisturize more, and yes do all the other things...sleep well, drink tons of water, eat well and avoid stress any way you can.

Use a good facial scrub. Just honey and sugar works well. You could also add a little bit of milk or lemon juice to the scrub to help slough off dead skin. A moisturizing mask works well, too! I like the pink Gelloid mask from Sage. http://www.zerozits.com or Victoria Principal's Invisible Mask. http://www.qvc.com HTHS! http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

ITA with this, and the comment about sleep. I can ALWAYS tell when I have not been getting adequate rest. I look just dreadful. One of my favorite tricks is to make sure my head is slightly elevated on my pillow at nighttime ... it really does wonders for eye bags!

One other things -- Revlon Skinlights in the cream that comes in the tube. I dot just a teeny tiny bit on my cheekbones, and it does wonders to pick up what little sparkle I DO have in my eyes http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I've been using Philosophy's Save Me at night and think it really helps.

I've been working on this since I first posted above, and here's some things I'm liking so far:

* Gloss, ALWAYS.
* Pink, rose & peach lips make me look more vibrant than darker colors. Creamy & glossy are better than matte.
* Try for a "just in from the cold" flush on cheeks. L'Oreal QuickStick in 'Ripe Plum' is working well for me to achieve this; Maybellie Dream Mousse blush is another good one for glowy cheeks.
* A light shimmery wash on entire eye area before other e/s.
* White eyeliner smudged on the inner corners of eyes.
* Pale shimmery shadow brushed close to and under lower lashes. Right now I'm using Mary-Kate and Ashley Shimmer Dust in 'Buttercup'.
* Emphasize lashes, not liner.
* Dewey, creamy skin. I'm oily so all I've done is skip powdering, but drier skins may need more moisturizing and creamier foundations.
* Get good at using self-tanner, even if you just spot use it. I can't use it on my face because the acne products I use cause peeling sometimes, but I do use it on upper body and then I can use a tanner foundation.
* Bronzer dusted lightly around.
* My new favorite skin perker-upper: aspirin mask! I've been using this about a week, and I feel like my skin is softer and glowier.
* The right color of clothing next to your face can do wonders. I'm wearing a warm terracotta color today that just seems to add some warmth and glowiness to my face too. And I almost didn't buy this top!

None of this is going to take the place of getting plenty of sleep, lots of water, good nutrition, and reducing stress as much as possible, but they may help. http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I totally agree with the facial scrub. I do this twice a week and a mask once a week. Lots of moisturizer, a good glowy one is Clinique Anti Gravity. Looks amazing under foundation! And a soft cream blush well blended is more uplifting than a powder blush. Blend your concealer really well to hide those dark circles. After putting on shadow, put a dot of shimmery cream light colored shadow right in the center of your eye above the pupil. This will open up your eyes. And use an eyelash curler! This will really brighten your face. Make sure your haircolor isn't too dark either, this will make you look tired. Hope this helps!

Try raising 7 children and then see how that destroys your body!
Sometimes my grandchildren tell me, "Grandma, you should take a nap with us!" and it hurts because I always try to be so energetic around them.
20 years ago I used to get deep into the hooch and would wake up every day with deep black circles under my eyes. People would often comment that I looked like a raccoon. It wasn't until I layed off the sauce and got healthy that they dissappeared.
Definitely agree with ck_nd = "water!!!" 2L or even 3L of water a day and you'll see results within about 2 weeks.
Cheers!

Laying off the sauce is a good idea. Thanks for the tip! http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Hi! I'm new here too. http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I'm 40 years old...one of my "secret weapons" is my eye cream. I use Aramis Lab Series for Men Undereye Rescue cream. Yep, it's a men's eye cream, but sometimes men's "beauty products" are better.

If I ever have to go without eye cream, I look easily ten years older http://community.icompact.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

I totally agree with Maxine. I only came to my senses about alcohol 5 years ago; i'm amazed that it didn't totally destroy my looks. Now, if I could just stop smoking.....;) All these other suggestions are right on, too! I just discovered the aspirin mask last spring and, I agree, it's amazing. I mix it with all sorts of other ingredients (I like to play!) but, whatever I use with it, or just alone with water, it's my favorite mask. Maxine, you've got me beat! I only had 4 kids!

Sleep, water and EXERCISE! I know it sounds like you have a lot going on in your life, but squeezing in even a little every day will make a difference in your energy level. The looking less tired part is somewhat easy - that's why God gave us self-tanners, blush and lipgloss ;) but getting the blood flowing is key.

i've just come across this thread...

instead of using the "aspirin mask" use Pepto-Bismol, same ingredients... use a cotton ball to apply it all over your face, let dry completely, rinse with water....... AMAZING! i love it

Lisa, I apologize for not seeing this sooner. I just haven't visited the Mature Beauty forum in months, literally!

The aspirin mask is just what you guessed: aspirin + water. Crush up some aspirins so they'll dissolve quicker, add enough water to make a paste, spread on your skin and relax a few minutes while it dries. I usually lie on my bed with a towel under my head to catch any fallout, just chilling and reading for 10-15 minutes. After that, scrub the residue of the mask into your skin for some extra exfoliation, then rinse off. I usually do this right before a shower so I finish up in the shower and there's no mess.

If anyone else has other methods, spill it. :)

Does this mask work to exfoliate? I'm currently using Mint Julep.... I have combo oily skin, What's ur skin type?

DarleneH

Yes, it exfoliates. Both when you rinse it off because it stays a little grainy, and you rub that in when rinsing, and because it is a BHA to chemically unclog pores. Try it a few times! Get the cheap, uncoated aspirin, then make some aspirin toner too. :)

my friend did this trick for me on my wedding day because of course i barely slept the night before. while it doesn't make you *feel* any more wide awake, it does make you look more alert and it definitely brightens your face. Worked for me anyway. :-)

Dar, thanks for all the general tips on looking more rested. ITA w/ you. Anything w/ a little shimmer to it helps to "wake up" the face, moisturized skin looks younger and the right colors can really bring out your skin. As I'm getting older, I'm having to change my makeup and I still miss some of my old favorites.

I'm not old I know, but too much alcohol (happy hour time!) & too little sleep mixed w/ tons of stress have made me look so tired lately! What I've been trying to do:

Drink tons of water - 60 oz min/day
Exfoliate, moisturize, and protect w/ sunscreen.
Sleep @ least 6-7 hrs/night (Alot for me!)
Eat more greens
Keep up w/ taking daily vitamins.

A secret trick I use for eyes is to keep my BE Eye Rever-Upper cream in my purse - it's like a pearly gel that you can add under/over m/u to just create a "glow" and depuff the eye area - love it!
