Whatever costume you’re planning to wear this Halloween, no one should endure the frightening reality of scratchy and scaly hands. As dry skin season transforms hand-shaking into a trick-or-treat encounter with scaly hands resembling a witch’s claw, Flexitol, www.flexitol.com (http://www.flexitol.com) the marketer of high quality skin care products, offers a lifetime supply of Flexitol Hand Balm for Very Dry Hands to the owner of the driest, most parched looking set of hands in the country.

“Even goblins and ghouls deserve smooth and supple hands,” said Mervyn Stone, Vice President, Eulactol USA, the Boca-Raton based manufacturer of the Flexitol skincare products. “I want to spread Halloween happiness by ensuring that the owner of the country’s scariest and most parched looking hands receives a lifetime supply of our doctor recommended Hand Balm.”

“Super dry and irritated skin can turn even the happiest occasion into a ghoulish episode,” said Dr. Gilda, relationship therapist, television personality and author of the best-selling Don’t Bet On the Prince! “When you shake hands, you’re making an initial but lasting impression. Shaking crusty hands makes an unsavory impact that lingers. Maintaining well moisturized skin is as important for witches and goblins on Halloween as for the rest of us mere mortals.”

Owners of crusty claws are invited to e-mail a jpeg of their hands – close-ups required – to flexitol@vorticom.com by 12:00 midnight on Halloween. The lifetime supply winner of Flexitol Hand Balm will be announced the following week.

To help avoid winter weather's skin irritations, painful cracks, and unsightly appearances during Halloween and this winter, dermatologists recommend following good skincare now, before the cold winds begin to blow and witches mount their brooms:

Moisturize, moisturize, and moisturize again. This is especially true after bathing or hand washing. Make sure you pat your skin "almost dry." While the skin is still damp, apply a moisturizer to hold the water in, and keep the skin from drying.
Add oil to your bath. The oil will soothe dry skin and help "lock in" moisture.
Exfoliate patches of dry skin as soon as they appear. This helps to prevent the skin from breaking down and cracking.
Wear clothes - especially gloves and socks - made of natural and comfortable fibers. Cotton is more soothing to the skin than nylon, wool, and rubber. Cotton will help the skin keep natural fluids in, while absorbing excessive perspiration that can cause drying.

“Our hands become drier as we age because the body manufactures less oil,” adds Stone. Flexitol Hand Balm for Very Dry Skin ensures that even the most “frightful” hands transform from scaly, dry and irritated to supple and smooth.

Super dry hands have found their salvation with Flexitol Hand Balm. A tiny application of this super concentrated hand balm goes a long way. Flexitol Hand Balm, available in 2 oz (MSRP: $4.99) tubes, is sold at select mass retailers nationwide.

* Contest details: Contest entrants requested to send in close-up JPEGS of their hands by midnight, Monday, October 31st 2005. The winner will receive a lifetime supply of Flexitol Hand Balm. Six units of Flexitol Hand Balm are the maximum number of Hand Balm product to be distributed annually per contest winner. This is not an iCompact contest, FYI. Flexitol is operating it but I like Flexitol and it sounds like a cool contest for Halloween, so there it is.
