I suggest to show a member's number of total posts just below their
icompact member status indicator (junior, member, millennium and ect.)
it can be just the number of posts in a little font that doesn't take much space at all. for example
Milennium Member
Total:1553 Posts.
or
1553 Posts.

Clicking on their profile will show you how many posts they've made.

We thought about adding this when we updated the site recently, but decided that we didn't want members to feel too competative about posting. Besides that's the way it was before and we wanted to stay true to the original iCompact that Aimee started.

Still a good suggestion tho.. I'll have a look into some kind of "badges" or graphics we could use instead. In general as Maeve said we liked how Aimee didn't have post counts, and thought that was a nice mellow way to go.

hi guys, I do think that my suggestion is nice.
it would help in determening how experienced around the boards a member is , and it shouldn't be hard to implement. i'm glad your thinking about it.

oh and I also think that it's something we're very proud about - our numbers of posts and therfore proudly wish to show it to others.

I think that the "Member", "Millenium Club" "Goddess" took care of that, you know at least how many posts they have made. You can't become a "IA Lifetime Member unless you have made 5,000 posts, so you get the idea, it is just not specific. Plus there are quite a few members (me included) that have been around for years but dont have a super high posting. I don't think that means I don't have a lot of experience on the board. I mean if it is important to you that's one thing... I just am more concerned about the quality rather than the quantity of my posts. And I think that was the original intention behind not having the number posted (someone please correct me if I am wrong). I really dont' care either way. Except for maybe saving someone some work, and that's about it.
Alright Good Morning, I am off to have my coffee now.

That shouldn't matter - no one should feel anxious about posting because they are "inexperienced".
Post totals are available by clicking on Public Profile and we can already see what year the person registered with iCompact.

Not to but in but may I also add that just because someone has 5000 posts (no offense to those who do) doesn't mean that they are more 'experienced' than one who has 500. Not everyone is that talkative and wants to post in tons of topics. I only post in topics that are of interest to me and I know I have a low post count, but here its not like other forums where post count matters. I like that feature.
I don't think it is important to put the number on the post. A couple of years ago I asked Aimee about some old posts that I couldn't find anymore. She told me that a lot of old posts had been delated to make room for new posts. The number you see for those of us who have been here for years (1999, 2000, maybe 2001) isn't even our true number anyway.

I agree with the other members that the number of posts one has made does not determine how 'experienced' him or her is with the site. I know when I first joined I didn't post all that much, but I did read the posts every day. And like others have mentioned (like MJ above), a lot of old posts were deleted anyway. I like that it shows what level member we are under our usernames. The levels speak for themselves as to how many posts we've made.

Hi Guys,
I hope I didn't offend anyone.:o
I only ment how experienced someone around the boards is, and not in anyway regarding their knowledge of skin-care/makeup ect.
I don't see the number of total posts statistics any diffefrent then the member's status is (junior, senior, millennium, lifetime and ect), so adding such indicator is just a fun fact. i'm proud with my threads/posts and don't mine at all that their number be displayd. maybee if my suggestion would put into action, a member can choose in the profie whether to display this or not, and that solves the problem right?
anyway, take it easy. it was just a suggestion :p

I wasn't offended at all, JohnE! New suggestions are always welcome here at iCompact. Your suggestion about the user being able to choose whether or not to display their specific number of posts or their level is a good one.

LOL! I'm not offended either. I was just giving my point of view. I remember when we didn't have an Off-Topic Forum and spend the summer talking about soap operas on the Makeup Q & A forum. Also someone posted a beautiful story about a girl who didn't like her freakles and her grandfather gave her a tigerlily to her her that freakles can be beautiful. Since all of that is gone to me the number in my profile is not my true number.
I am willing to compriomse and have the option of showing the number on our post. No hard feelings at all here:) !

Probably late to the party on this, but I think it's interesting to see how many posts people have! I can't even tell how many I have - where can I see this?

Chiming in here ...
I don't see any point in displaying how many posts one has under their name, to be quite honest. What it will turn into is (and I've already seen this here) a contest to see who gets their names listed in the monthly post totals ... and really, does it matter? All it says to me is that some people have more time to post than others, so it's quite unimportant.
Just my $0.02. Everyone's posts, no matter how many or how little, are important. Let's not turn this into a posting contest, people.

Thank You! you can see the number of posts by clicking on a member's name and then choose member's profile.

No, I don't think it was a bad idea. But you can tell that some people do that because they will post answers to literally every thread, or they will post multiple new threads every day even if the questions have already been answered somewhere else, things like that.
